Elizabeth Garouste (French, born 1949), a former costume designer, and Mattia Bonetti (Swiss, born 1952), a photographer, together formed a Paris-based design team specializing in furniture that is at once experimental and elegant. Their work is marked by a use of classically tasteful materials, such as terra-cotta and wrought iron, as well as by the prevalence of sleek shapes and lines. “Our hope is to give people the feeling of freedom in the choice of forms,” they have said. “Good taste really bothers us a lot. What we care about is implanting doubt. We don’t have any rules.” Published in 1990, this is a first edition, foundational book with text by Stephen Calloway, François Baudot, and Gérard-Georges Lemaire.
